Postdoc in Probing solid/liquid interfaces with cryomicroscopy

Arbetsbeskrivning

Solid/liquid interfaces enable the functionalities of many modern material systems. Deep insights into these interfaces will facilitate design of novel materials for, e.g. batteries, implants, controlled drug release, cellulose based materials and more. Their properties are determined by mechanisms that operate at different length scales. Today, the probing and imaging of the solid/liquid interfaces on nano and atomic scale remains as a great challenge. In this project, we aim to develop methods using advanced microscopes to enable the probing of solid/liquid interfaces with down to atomic spatial resolution using cryo-microscopy.

Information about the research group
We are a dynamic group with unique and high competence in research and development frontiers, for energy materials and sustainability. The work is carried out in close collaboration with research groups at Chalmers and also as part of research exchange nationally and internationally with universities and industries.

Major responsibilities
1) to develop the workflow to prepare high quality cryogenic microscopy samples for FIB/SEM, TEM and APT;
2) to apply cryogenic microscopy techniques on the solid/liquid interface in various materials, such as the solid electrolyte interface in structural composite batteries;
3) to gain a fundamental understanding of the solid/liquid interface;
4) to analyse the results and write articles.

Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position may also include teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.

Qualifications
To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must hold a doctoral degree awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers). You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.

To qualify you must have research expertise on different electron microscopes (FIB/SEM, TEM ). Working knowledge on atom probe tomography and particularly cryomicroscopy are strong merits.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Contract terms
This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for two years.
