Postdoc in systems and synthetic biology

Arbetsbeskrivning

Information about the research
We are currently looking for a post-doctoral research fellow to join our team to develop a next generation drug discovery platform. The innovative project is embedded in an interdisciplinary collaboration between Chalmers University of Technology and a multinational pharma company. You will be working in a stimulating environment, have access to our existing research, and you are encouraged to pursue your own independent research in cutting edge laboratories.

What’s more, you will have the support of leading scientists from Chalmers and the industrial partner, who will provide you with the guidance and knowledge you need to develop your career. Utilizing academic research in industrial driven applications is an opportunity to make a real difference to the future of medical science.

About the Division of Systems and Synthetic Biology (Sysbio)
The Division of Systems and Synthetic Biology at the Chalmers University of Technology is one of the world leading research groups in systems and synthetic biology. Our research interests involve a wide range of activities from understanding the fundamental operational principles of metabolism and studies of metabolic diseases, to highly applied research directed towards development of new cell factories, e.g. used as next generation drug discovery and production platforms.

The details of the departmental research activities may be found here.

Major responsibilities
The open postdoc position is in the field of synthetic biology. It is a unique opportunity working with global leaders in drug discovery and synthetic biology. You will be able to work seamlessly between two world leading laboratories at Chalmers University and a multinational pharma company, to bring your projects into reality, having access to the very best facilities and experts in the field from both organisations. You will be using cutting edge synthetic biology techniques to engineer yeast into a novel drug discovery platform, including the development of intracellular biosensors, bioinformatic mining, heterologous enzyme expression and conducting high throughput screens. You will be accountable for the day to day running of your own project, but have shared responsibility for delivery of the overall project.

You will have developed excellent synthetic biology skills and now wish to apply them in a new way. You will be a creative problem solver, who sees challenge problems as opportunities to innovate. You will have a passion for team-work, and recognise the value of a strong network and working in an international multidisciplinary environment.
