Technology and Social Change is a nationally and internationally leading environment for research and education in how people create
and use technology, and how technological change is interwoven with cultural patterns, everyday life, politics, ethics and economy.
Third cycle and first cycle studies specialising in issues of technology and social change are carried out at the department.
Duties
Located at the Department of Thematic Studies is also the Centre for Medical Humanities and Bioethics (CMHB). CMHB is a LiU-centre that gathers research colleagues from several departments at LiU. At CMHB medical humanities is understood in a broad sense, including for example studies of questions that arise at the intersection between the humanities, the social sciences, clinical practice, and biomedicine. The selected candidate is expected to conduct research on questions that arise at the intersection between biomedicine and the humanities, particularly addressing epistemological questions when perspectives from the humanities and biomedicine are brought into dialogue with each other. As an example, this can include studies of epistemological perspectives and conditions when perspectives from the neurosciences and phenomenological philosophy are brought into such dialogue.
The duties of the appointed post doc include writing academic texts in English, and the selected candidate is expected to work independently and, possibly, together with other researchers. Duties also include participation in seminars at the Department of Thematic Studies – Technology and Social Change as well as at the Centre for Medical Humanities and Bioethics. A post doc should primarily be conducting research.
It is a requirement for this position that the candidate has documented scientific expertise in in medical humanities, broadly understood. It is also a requirement that the applicant has documented expertise in written English. The applicant must have good proficiency in spoken English.
Documented scientific qualifications in the fields of epistemology, philosophy of science, neurophenomenology and/or phenomenology of medicine are of particular merit.
A Postdoc will essentially carry out research. The position may also involve teaching, but during no more than a fifth of work time.
Qualifications
The position requires a doctorate or an equivalent degree from a foreign university. The doctorate shall have been obtained no longer than three years before the expiration date of the application.
Appointment time
A Postdoc is appointed until further notice, but for no longer than two years. The appointment can be renewed if there are special reasons.
