Information about the research group and the project
The Group for Advanced Receiver Development (GARD) carries out research in the field of Terahertz technology and instrumentation for environmental sciences and radio astronomy, within the Onsala Space Observatory division at the Department of Space, Earth and Environment (SEE). GARD research activities include elements of low-temperature physics, superconducting electronics, material science and thin-film technology. Being an internationally recognized research group, with its state-of-art Terahertz instrumentation, GARD was and is participating in large-scale international projects, such as Herschel HIFI, ALMA and APEX.
As a PostDoc with us at GARD you will be involved in development projects aiming to achieve ultra-wideband RF and IF performance components for next generation receivers for APEX, ALMA, and EHT.
Major responsibilities
- Simulations of waveguide structures and circuits in HFSS
- Mixer chip (MMIC-like) development using HFSS, ADS and MatLab
- Characterisation of the fabricated mixers
- Report writing
- Writing and publication of scientific articles
- Involvement in teaching activities for courses at master and undergraduate
Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).
Qualifications
We are looking for you with a PhD degree in electrical engineering, applied physics, terahertz technology, digital electronics or materials science. You should also have:
- Good proficiency in English (written and oral)
- Hands-on experience in electromagnetics or high frequency electronics
- Hands-on experience with digital electronics, e.g. ADC
- Experience with numerical simulation software, e.g. HFSS
- High motivation and ability to work in a team
It would be of advantage for you to have previous experience in Terahertz instrumentation, in development and/or experimentally. Good proficiency in Swedish and previous teaching experience are also considered assets. We expect and appreciate a high level of ambition.
