Arbetsbeskrivning
We are looking for an independent and enthusiastic post doctoral researcher who would like to continue our pioneering work on membrane engineering. We are offering a 2-years full contract and the possibility to work with top colleagues, in a stimulating environment with state of the art facilities.
Information about the research/the project/the division
The Industrial Biotechnology group is a young, dynamic and international group of researchers established in 2008 and counts now around 45 members. The common denominator of the research activities in the group is to optimize the use of renewable raw materials for the sustainable production of fuels, chemicals and materials within the main concept of biorefinery. Our vision is to be the key players in the realization of biobased economy. The proposed project aims at investigating how the lipid composition of cell membrane impacts their structure and supra molecular properties. The aim is to gain additional knowledge to direct membrane engineering strategies for the creation of robust industrial strains, with an engineered membrane which is less permeable to specific inhibitors, such as acetic acid.
Major responsibilities
You will be responsible for the daily management of the research project, experimental planning and performing experiments. You are expected to contribute to devising the outline of as well as drafting the research articles resulting from the project. Instrument and procedures responsibilities are distributed among group members, thus you may receive training and responsibility for one or more instruments.
Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.
Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).
Qualifications
All candidates must hold a doctoral degree, generally not older than three years, in Biotechnology/Bioengineering, Microbiology, Cell biology or other related disciplines.
Experience in microbial cell biology and the related physico-chemical methods as well as microscopy is a strong merit. Knowledge on lipid chemistry and membranes represent strong advantage factors. Furthermore, some experience in working with yeast physiology is a merit. The successful candidate will have an outstanding academic track record and have published first authored papers in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals.
The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
Chalmers continuously strives to be an attractive employer. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers.
