Postdoc position in Development of novel catalysts for chemcial production

Arbetsbeskrivning

In this project the main objective is to reduce the CO2 footprint of important specialty chemicals. This will be done by developing innovative catalyst for efficient processes as well as using green feedstocks. This position will enable combining detailed catalysis research with a close collaboration with industry.

Information about the position
This position is at the Chemical Engineering division of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering department at Chalmers. We have a wide range of experience and work both experimentally and with modeling. We have a long tradition of working with both fundamental scientific questions and applied problems together with industry. This position is within the unit for Chemical Process and Reaction Engineering. In addition, the position will be included in the Centre for Chemical Process Engineering (CPE) and Competence Centre for Catalysis (KCK). This project is conducted together with Perstorp, which is is a leading company for specialty chemicals. A close collaboration between Perstorp and Chalmers in the project is critical.

Information about the project
Perstorp is today producing many specialty chemicals that are important for our societiy. This research project, funded from Industriklivet, is focusing on producing chemicals with lower CO2 footprint, by using more effiecient processes as well as green feedstocks.

Major responsibilities
The project will focus on developing novel catalysts. The catalyst will be tested in high pressure reactors. The catalysts will be throughly characterized using for example XRD, BET, SEM, TEM, TPR, TPD, DRIFT and XPS. We are currently recruiting a post-doc and will later during the spring also recruit a PhD student to the project. It is planned that the post-doc will be a co-supervisor for the new PhD student.

The position will involve reporting current research results in both written and oral form as well as authoring scientific research publications. The position also includes supervising master students. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.

Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).

Qualifications
A PhD, preferably in catalysis. Extensive experience in catalysis, including reactor experiments and catalyst characterization. The degree should generally not be older than three years. You are expected to demonstrate good potential within research

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but if you have an interest in learning Swedish, Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Chalmers continuously strives to be an attractive employer. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers.

Information about the department:
Chemistry and Chemical Engineering is the largest department at Chalmers and covers a large array of research from basic to applied. The fields of interest extend from DNA-research and biomaterials, solar cells and fuels, high temperature corrosion, and catalysis. The Department is heavily committed to teaching at the undergraduate, graduate, as well as postgraduate level in these areas. We have approximately 300 employees, divided into four research and one administrative division. We are situated at campus Johanneberg in the middle of Gothenburg. Our vision is “Through curiosity and knowledge towards a sustainable world”.
