Postdoc position in Electrochemical Recording of Neurotransmission

Postdoc position in Electrochemical Recording of Neurotransmission

Arbetsbeskrivning

This position will focus on "Electrochemical recording of neurotransmission" and involves the development of new analytical tools and bringing this novel technology to the field of neurochemistry. Here, the new electrochemical sensor technology will be implemented for studies on neurotransmission with focus on glutamate signalling at healthy cells and cells with development of pathology such as Alzheimers's disease.

Information about the research group
The research group at Chalmers focuses on the development of analytical tools that pushes the current limits of measurements for neurochemistry. The motivation is the implementation of this new technology and to answer fundamental research questions regarding the mechanisms for regulation of neurotransmission in our healthy and diseased brain. The current project is part of a collaboration with research groups at the Neuroscience department, Gothenburg University, where the aim is to explore mechanisms at the synapse that lead to neurodegeneration. The research group is part of the Division of Chemistry and Biochemistry that employs around 50 people, including PhD students and postdocs. Research activities at the division includes the areas of physical chemistry, organic chemistry, nanotechnology and analytical chemistry.

Major responsibilities
You will be involved in fabrication and further development of novel enzyme based electrochemical biosensors and using these probes for detection of neurotransmitter release at single cells in vitro and cells in tissue. Here, the work will focus on studying glutamate signalling and mechanisms for development of pathology at the synapse, in particular Alzheimers's disease. Hence, this project will involve all from the development of new analytical tools to bringing the novel technology to applications in neurochemical research related to neurodegeneration. Hence, this project will involve the development of new analytical tools and bringing the novel technology to applications in neurochemical research related to neurodegeneration.

The position may also includes teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.

Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).

Qualifications
To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must have a doctoral degree in a relevant field; Analytical Chemistry, Electrochemistry and/or Neurochemistry. Further, experience using microelectrodes/enzyme-based biosensors for amperometric or cyclic voltammetry recording of neurotransmitter release from single cells is needed. Experience with electrophysiology recording at cells is also meritorious. To be successful you also need to be highly motivated, have an independent problem-solving way of thinking combined with an interest of co-operation with others. You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

We offer
Chalmers offers a cultivating and inspiring working environment in the coastal city of Gothenburg.

Chalmers aims to actively improve our gender balance. We work broadly with equality projects, for example the GENIE Initiative on gender equality for excellence. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers.

Application procedure
The application should be marked with Ref 20220431 and written in English. The application should be sent electronically and be attached as pdf-files, as below:
