Postdoc position in Energy Systems Modelling

The Department of Energy and Environment excels in research and education related to energy, environment and sustainable development ranging from a global perspective to industrial, building and product issues. The focus is on experimental and theoretical research on energy technology as well as on development, use and evaluation of methods and tools for analysis of technical systems. In total around 200 persons are active at the five divisions of the department.

Information about the research
The field of research of the position is energy systems analysis. Specifically, the position concerns modelling of optimal strategies of use of gas in the transport sector. The research should have a long-term focus, apply wide system boundaries and address the contexts of Denmark. Further, the modelling should be applying cost-optimisation tools of the MARKAL/TIMES type. Initially, the research also covers data collection of technology and cost parameters for the modelling.

The position is funded by and part of the large industry-academy FutureGas project, led by the Danish Technical University, focussing on gas use futures for Denmark. Since the position is part of a large project targeting future use of gas in a national perspective, the position also includes collaboration with other project partners on scenarios, technological choices and modelling in- and output. The position will also include research visits/stays in Denmark. 

The Energy System Group at the Division of Energy Technology comprises two professors, one assistant professor, three postdocs, and around ten PhD students. Our research and education focuses on energy transitions, sustainable energy systems, and energy system technology with a particular emphasis on quantitative analysis of transitions of the power, heat and transport sectors. The postdoc is expected to contribute to the research environment at the department and in particular in the Energy System Group.

The Division of Energy Technology of the Department of Energy and Environment conducts research and offers education in energy technology and energy systems. Our research focuses on energy transformation, sustainable energy systems, and energy system technology. Our work is characterised by the combination of systems-level projects with in-depth research on energy transformation processes, and our participation in a great number of national and international projects.

Major responsibilities
Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. Project collaboration, limited outreach and project management duties are also essential aspects of the position. The position also possibly includes a limited amount of teaching on master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. The position also includes teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.

Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).

Qualifications
To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must have a doctoral degree in Energy systems analysis and modelling. The degree should generally not be older than three years. You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.

Experience of research on energy for transport, gas systems, and energy policy is meritorious for the position. Energy systems modelling skills in general and, in particular, experience with the MARKAL/TIMES or similar modelling tools are also highly meritorious.

The position requires very good verbal and written communication skills in English.
