Postdoc position in in ESEM in-situ studies of high temperature corrosion

Arbetsbeskrivning

Information about the project
The project consists of three parts: (i) building of a novel experimental device for in-situ studies of high temperature corrosion on the nano-level, (ii) utilizing the workstation to observe corrosion phenomena on specially designed model alloys, and (iii) model the inward transport of chlorides through the oxide grain boundaries by DFT methods (will be done by our partners). The project is an interdisciplinary combination in several aspects, experimental – theoretical work, physics – chemistry, as well as microscopy – corrosion, making it possible to produce new mechanisms and models for salt induced corrosion.

The overall research at the Division of Materials Microstructure can be grouped into four areas; hard materials, high temperature materials, nuclear materials and functional materials. The division is part of the Department of Physics.

Major responsibilities
As post-doc in this project you are responsible for constructing the in-situ high temperature corrosion device and carrying out the microstructural investigations, both on your own and as member of a team. You are also supposed to take on responsibility for teaching new users, follow the development in the field and initiate method development work. The experimentally obtained results should be used as a basis for understanding and describing the corrosion phenomena on a nano-level.

Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position also includes teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.

Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).

Qualifications
Knowledge in high temperature corrosion, electron microscopy, skills in working hands-on with equipent development. Good communication and collaborative skills.

To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must have a doctoral degree in a relevant field; the degree should generally not be older than three years. You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in Swedish and English. If Swedish is not your native language, you should be able to teach in Swedish on undergraduate level after two years. Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Chalmers continuously strives to be an attractive employer. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers.
