Arbetsbeskrivning
We are looking for a highly motivated and ambitious postdoc to strengthen our research team and support our research activities within the area of intelligent integrated energy systems. You will participate in on-going projects aiming at enhancing flexibilities to support the secure operation of the future distribution grids with high level of renewable energy sources.
Information about the division
The Division of Electric Power Engineering conducts research within a broad range of topics in electric power technology. Our purpose is to develop interdisciplinary research within the university as well as with external partners. Research activities at the division can be organised in four main areas: electric power systems, power electronics, electric machines and high voltage engineering. The strength of our research is based on a solid theoretical basis and extensive experimental verification in our laboratories as well as in the field. Our goals are to enhance the knowledge base regarding electrical systems for renewables, vehicles, buildings and industrial applications. The division has recently been involved in a number of research projects in the area of smart energy buildings and microgrids, transmission system monitoring and protection, etc., funded by EU, state funding as well as by Swedish power industry.
Major responsibilities
This position will mainly be a part of the on-going EU Horizon 2020 project Flexigrid. The project focuses on developing and demonstrating innovative methods and flexible market designs enabled by an IoT platform for local energy exchanges and provision of flexibilities in distribution grids. As a postdoc researcher you will develop and demonstrate advanced control methods (e.g., machine learning based) for enhancing flexibilities and congestion management in distribution grids. The work will be conducted in close cooperation with national and international project partners within the consortium of the project.
You are expected to provide support in other connected projects and to contribute in the development of future research proposals. The position also includes departmental work (e.g., teaching) up to 10%, apart from the research tasks. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.
Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to one and a half year (18 months) with the possibility to extend to another year in subject to available funding and performance.
Qualifications
To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must have a doctoral degree in Electrical engineering or a related field. Previous knowledge and experience in electrical distribution system real-time monitoring and control and use of digital real-time simulation tools is required. Further, experience in machine learning methods and applications to distribution systems is beneficial. Knowledge of IoT platform and its integrations to energy systems as well as hands-on experience on hardware-software interfacing using standardised communication protocols in real platforms and environments are desirable. You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching and to demonstrate great potential within research and education.
To be suitable for the position you should have excellent collaboration and problem-solving skills. The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of Swedish language is an advantage and Chalmers also offers Swedish courses.
