Postdoc position in marine resources valorization

Arbetsbeskrivning

This position at Chalmers offers an exciting opportunity to advance research in marine resource valorization, with a specific focus on glycomics. The dynamic, interdisciplinary environment fosters innovation and international collaboration, while comprehensive support for career development ensures a trajectory of professional growth. This role promises to be both challenging and rewarding, making it an ideal opportunity for candidates passionate about marine biotechnology and sustainable resource utilization.

Information about the division and the department
At the division of Industrial Biotechnology in the group of Assistant Prof. Amparo Jiménez Quero, you will be working with a multidisciplinary and multicultural set of researchers with a broad background in biomass utilization, from enzymatic degradation to molecular characterization of biomass polymers and further material formulation. IndBio division is very well equipped with infrastructure related to the project goals but internal collaborations with other divisions at Chalmers will provide any neccesary facilities.

Major responsibilities
The project aims to harness the vast potential of underutilized marine resources, particularly focusing on by-products from algae and fish markets. At the Division of Industrial Biotechnology, under the guidance of Assistant Prof. Amparo Jiménez Quero, you will work with a diverse group of researchers specializing in various aspects of biomass utilization. This includes expertise in enzymatic degradation, molecular characterization of biomass polymers, and material formulation. The IndBio division boasts state-of-the-art infrastructure aligned with the project's objectives, and collaborations with other divisions at Chalmers will ensure access to all necessary facilities for comprehensive research and innovation.

Qualifications
The successful candidate must have a PhD degree in Biotechnology, Food Chemistry or similar. The candidate must have experience and high developed skills in biomass valorization, characterization and application, and experience in performing deep glycomic analysis is adventageous. Laboratory experience in biomass transformation in high value compounds for food or cosmetic applications is meritorious but most importantly a good track record of experience in multidisciplinary work. Good communication in English verbal and written is required.

To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must hold a doctoral degree awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers). Exceptions from the 3-year limit can be made for longer periods resulting from parental leave, sick leave or military service*.
