Information about the research and the research group
The Internet of Things (IoT) envisions an interconnected world where virtually all devices, from cars to wearables, from home appliances to factory machines, from cameras to health-monitoring devices, will be interconnected and continuously share data. The IoT promises to transform the way we live and is a key enabler for applications such as intelligent transportation systems, automated supply-chain management, smart cities, smart grids, and smart farming. The success of these technologies and the full realization of the IoT depend on the ability of performing latency-critical, highly computationally demanding tasks in third parties. Edge computing is a new paradigm that promises to achieve that, moving the computation power from the cloud closer to where data is generated, by pooling the available resources at the network edge.
Within this research project, you will work on novel methods to design resilient, low-latency, secure, and privacy-preserving edge computing schemes. This position is part of a larger initiative at Chalmers on this area. Your supervisors in this project will be Prof. Alexandre Graell i Amat and Prof. Giuseppe Durisi. You can check out our recent publications in this field in the respective websites.
You will be part of the Communication Systems Group at Chalmers, which is known for its contributions to coding and information theory and to areas ranging from wireless to optical communication systems. The group has over 40 members from all over the world. The working language at Chalmers in English. The position is for one year, with the possibility to extend for one more year, depending on your performance and the available funding. You will receive a competitive salary with social benefits and pension.
Major responsibilities
In this project, you will perform cutting-edge research on distributed edge computing. You are expected to publish high-quality, high-impact papers, work with PhD students, and be involved in project management. You will also gain knowledge in proposal writing and there are opportunities for teaching. Travel within Sweden and the EU will be a part of the job.
Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position may include limited teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.
Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).
Qualifications
To qualify you will need a PhD in electrical engineering, computer science, or applied math. Strong mathematical skills in, e.g., stochastic processes and optimization, are essential, as are excellent programming skills. Knowledge in information theory, coding theory, and communication theory, is also needed. Furthermore, you must have a proven publication record in top-ranked journals and/or conferences. If you have no publications in IEEE journals, you are not eligible for this position.
Good communication skills and fluency in English are essential. Candidates must be creative and have the ability to initiate new research collaborations, work in teams, present their ideas and results to researchers with different backgrounds, and be open for the application of results. Experience in international collaboration, innovation and utilization, and teaching are also meritorious.
The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English.
Chalmers continuously strives to be an attractive employer. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers.
