Postdoc position in the Mathematical Foundations of Machine Learning

Arbetsbeskrivning

This postdoctoral position offers the possibility to study fundamental problems of machine learning (ML) via rigorous methods. By joining our young lab you will have the possibility to work, collaborate and supervise on projects that are timed, contributing to decide the research direction of the group for the upcoming years. Thanks to an extended network of connections, you will have the possibility to interact and collaborate with researchers world-wide.

Information about the division and the department
The CSE department is a joint effort between Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg, operating across two campuses in the city of Gothenburg. The department is organized into four divisions and employs approximately 270 people from over 30 countries. Research within the department spans a wide spectrum, from theoretical foundations to applied systems development. High-quality education is provided at the bachelor's, master's, and graduate levels, with over 120 courses offered each year. The Data Science & AI (DSAI) division, one of the four divisions, focuses on both fundamental and applied research in AI and machine learning, upholding high international standards.

Major responsibilities
In your role as a postdoctoral researcher, you will be integral to advancing the group's research agenda by identifying unresolved challenges within the machine learning literature and devising research strategies to address them. Your responsibilities will extend beyond conducting your own research; you will also play a pivotal role in supervising PhD and potentially master students, overseeing projects proposed by you or aligned with the PI's objectives. Throughout your postdoctoral tenure, you will develop the skills of an academic leader, proficient in managing the entire research process from conceptualization to the dissemination of published results.

Qualifications
A PhD in mathematics, physics, computer science, or related fields is a prerequisite.
A proven track record of publications in reputable journals or conferences within the field is also required.
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English are essential.

To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must hold a doctoral degree awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers). Exceptions from the 3-year limit can be made for longer periods resulting from parental leave, sick leave or military service*.
