Postdoc with a specialization in health promoting outdoor environments

Arbetsbeskrivning

Department of Urban and Rural Development
In times of urbanization and densification, rules and tools are used to design residential areas that preserve and develop health-promoting outdoor environments. But how do rules safeguard the quality of the outdoor environment? We are looking for a postdoc who will be part of a research team and test, evaluate and critically discuss whether and how existing green space rules and tools can help municipalities design health-promoting residential areas.

About the position
This postdoc will be part of the research project “RULES AND TOOLS – safeguarding neighbouring green space for human health and well-being” hence, the postdoc will work closely with researchers from SLU and Nordregio in collaboration with Uppsala municipality. The postdoc will focus on data collection, analysis and writing. Methods that will be applied are interviews, GIS spatial analysis techniques and fieldwork/analysis in Uppsala.

Your profile
We are looking for a candidate with a PhD in landscape architecture or related discipline such as urban design, planning and geography. Excellent skills in written and oral communication in English are required, however, as the empirical work will take place in Uppsala and includes assisting in qualitative interviews, Scandinavian language skills are also necessary. Knowledge in both qualitative methods and GIS is desirable. Experiences with writing and publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals are required and a strong publication record is meriting. Emphasis is placed on personal qualities such as excellent collaborative skills, being creative and independent with the ability to meet deadlines. The position is intended for a junior researcher and we are primarily looking for someone who has completed their doctorate preferably no more than three years ago.
