Postdoctoral fellow/Assistant researcher
Fulltime position for two years within the Institute of Medicine
Project description:
Genes involved in the storage of lipids in skeletal muscle and their relation to the development of systemic insulin resistance
The accumulation of triglycerides in skeletal muscle is highly related to the development of insulin resistance. However, insulin resistance is not induced by triglycerides per se, but instead involves genes that are required for the assembly and processing of the triglyceride storage form (lipid droplets). Our research group has identified several genes of interest, and the post-doctoral fellow / bitr.forskare will investigate the role of these genes in the development of insulin resistance.
This project will use techniques in cell and molecular biology, proteomics and lipidomics, work with genetically modified mice and mice in which the genes of interest have been silenced by sh-RNA (using lentivirus) as well as analyses of skeletal muscle and adipose tissue biopsies from humans.
Requirements: PhD in relevant subject area having been obtained within three years from the application date.Earlier examinations may be accepted under certain circumstances.A suitable background for the candidate would include: extensive knowledge of cell culture and experiments in cultured cells; training in molecular biology; experience from work with genetically modified mice.
(Good knowledge of spoken and written English.International research experience is advantageous.)
Application: Please apply in English and include: a CV and a bibliography, a copy of the PhD certificate, a short description of current and previous research (max 3 pages), a personal letter stating visions and plans for the future, and names and addresses (including e-mail addresses) of three scientists who can provide references.
Send your signed application together with examination certificate to: Registrar, Sahlgrenska Academy at University of Gothenburg, Box 400, SE-405 30 Göteborg, Sweden.
Indicate the reference number both within the application and on the envelope. The closing date for receipt of applications is NOVEMBER 23th .
