Field of subject for the position: Biomedical sciences
Placement: Kalmar
Extent and period: Full time, 2 years, starting on March 1, 2020
Context of position:
The working tasks consist mainly of research with the focus on actin filament multiplication for purpose of upscaling of molecular motors driven network based biocomputation. The actin filaments will be split using different procedures, possibly including actin-binding proteins such as gelsolin and cofilin. They will then be elongated by polymerization under favorable solution conditions or in the presence of specific actin-binding proteins.In your job you are expected to actively participate in the department's environment and network both internally and externally. Up to 20 % of the work can include teaching and tutoring in the undergraduate and graduate level.
Qualification requirements:
Qualified for appointment is the one who holds a PhD, or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD, and who have completed their degree no more than three years before the application deadline. Applicant should have a PhD degree in a subject area of relevance for the project (biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, biomedical engineering etc.) Applicants must not have previously been employed as a postdoctoral fellow for more than a year in the same or related subject area at Linnaeus University.
The applicant should have experience of actin polymerization assays as well as use of the actin-binding protein gelsolin in combination with in vitro motility assays. Other requirements are well-documented experience from studies using TIRF-microscopy and purification of actin from muscle and covalent conjugation of actin with fluorophores.
In addition, the Post Doc should have a high proficiency in written and spoken English, be able to solve problems and to work independently as well as interact well in a research group.
Additional valuable qualifications:
Previous experience from work in international research environments in relevant fields are viewed favorably as well as some (limited) proficiency in written and spoken Swedish.
In its overall assessment of skills gives particular importance to an assessment of the applicant's potential for a successful career as a teacher and researcher.
