The Institute of Clinical Sciences is one of six Institutes within Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg. We conduct research and education that puts people's health and quality of life in focus. We represent 16 different research areas and are divided into four sections. Through a fruitful collaboration with the healthcare and Sahlgrenska University Hospital, we have developed joint projects and meeting places that benefits both health care and research
At the Department of Surgery, professor Roger Olofsson Bagge conducts both clinical and translational preclinical research in breast cancer and malignant melanoma. A newly started lab within the framework of the Wallenberg Center for Molecular and Translational Medicine, and located at the Sahlgrenska Cancer Center, will expand the research in the field of exosomes/vesicles and cancer, with a focus on using vesicles for diagnostics and in cancer therapies.

Subject area description
The overall objective is to characterize the role of uveal melanoma derived EVs in the development of pre-metastatic niches in the liver, and more specifically we aim to describe to which cell types EVs home, the functional and structural changes in the liver with a focus on epithelial to mesenchymal transition, to describe the change in transcriptomic profile induced by EVs and finally to specifically analyse how BAP-1 mutation affect this behaviour.
Duties
The job will involve research on exosomes in vitro and in vivo. The work includes planning and implementation of studies as well as advanced methods for isolation and characterization of exosomes. This includes ultracentrifugation, electron microscopy, and histological and molecular biological methods. Work on cell culture and mouse models is also included. The work will mainly be carried out at the Sahlgrenska Center for Cancer Research.
Eligibility
To be eligible for appointment as a postdoc, the applicant is required to have a doctoral degree, a doctoral degree in art or a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be met before the employment decision is made.
In the first instance, those who have completed their degree no more than three years prior to the end of the application period shall be considered. Those who have completed their degree more than three years prior to the end of the application period may also be considered in the first instance if special grounds exist. Special grounds relate to leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, commissions of trust within union organisations, service within the defence services or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical service or service/assignment relevant to the subject area.
Assessment criteria
A PhD degree with documented knowledge in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, molecular biology or equivalent is required. Experience of advanced exosome research is required. The work demands drive, independence and accuracy. Great importance is attached to personal qualities such as commitment, initiative and ability to cooperate.
Employment
The employment is limited (temporary) for 24 months, 100 % of full-time and is placed at the Institute of Clinical Sciences, Surgery. Starting date; 2023-03-01
