Postdoctor in Materials Science

Arbetsbeskrivning

Hereby advertises a position as

Postdoctor in Materials Science
formally based at Thin Film Physics at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology, IFM

Duties
This job involves research and characterization by aberration corrected electron microscopy of towards structural and chemical characterization as well as in-situ investigations of electrochemical interactions of energy related materials. The investigated materials are predominantly nanoscale carbides, MXenes, which are two-dimensional sheets organized in thin films or nanoscale particles.

All the investigations will be carried out at the state of the art double corrected Linköping Titan3 (X-FEG, Monochromator, Super-X and Gatan Quantum ERS), installed in the exceptionally dedicated building “Ångströmhuset”. In particular, the elemental, chemical and structural changes of the nanostructures will be monitored by TEM, HAADF/ABF-STEM as well as spectrum imaging (SI) methods.

Materials for these investigations are developed and characterized in a close and iterative collaboration with local materials synthesis groups in Linköping, as well as with other colleagues in Sweden, Europe and the USA. Further, the job includes dissemination of scientific results through publishing in scientific journals and travelling to conferences/ colleagues.

Qualifications
The position requires a doctorate or an equivalent degree from a foreign university. The doctorate shall have been obtained no longer than three years before the expiration date of the application.

This position requires a doctoral graduate (Ph.D.) within the field of materials science, materials chemistry or similar. The applicant must possess relevant knowledge of materials for energy applications. To take full advantage of the capacity of the microscope, the applicant must be able to demonstrate an extensive and dedicated track record in the field of atomically resolved electron microscopy. It is mandatory that the applicant has a high level of understanding for, and proficiency with the latest generation of electron optical components, such as image- and probeforming lens aberration correctors, monochromators/ filters, high brightness sources. Further it is desirable that the applicant has an elevated proficiency in high resolution electron spectroscopy methods and/or in-situ experiments. Applicants with a background in simulations/ calculations of structure images and fine structure spectra are also eligible.

Applicants must be proficient in communicating their research, in English, by publishing in scientific journals and by presentations at scientific conferences.

Appointment time
Two years. The appointment can be renewed if there are special reasons.

Starting date
By agreement.

Salary
