Skilled and committed employees are a crucial factor in the success of Linköping University. And we need more of them. Our core expertise comes from teachers and researchers, but a successful university requires experienced and motivated employees in many fields. Everyone is important. We need to recruit many new employees thanks to, among all, an expansion in our research activity. We need you here. We look forward to receiving your application!
The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology conducts research and offers education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Research, the predominant activity, is often done in collaboration with corporate and international partners. We are one of the university’s largest, oldest and most well known departments, encompassing five interacting scientific fields: biology, chemistry, material physics, applied physics and theory and modelling.

LINKÖPING UNIVERSITY
Hereby advertises a position as
Postdoctor in Materials Science (within the Competence Centre FunMat-II)
formally based at Nanostructured Materials at the Department of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (IFM)
Duties
FunMat-II is a Competence Centre funded by VINNOVA (the Swedish Agency for Innovation Systems) in materials science and surface engineering at Linköping University with partners at Uppsala University, the research institute RISE, and numerous Swedish and international industry partners. At Linköping University, the Divisions of Nanostructured Materials, Thin Film Physics, and Theory and Modeling participate.
As a member of Nanostructured Materials, you will conduct application inspired fundamental research on materials synthesis and materials behavior. The work is primarily experimental. This position is part of the competence center FunMat-II, which means that you will be part of a larger research team that is doing collaborative research. The team members are from Linköping university and industrial companies that are partners of the center. You will be part of one or several research projects, which are headed by a senior researcher and a steering group.
The position comprises growth of thin films by arc deposition and magnetron sputtering. Primary, alloys of transition metal nitrides are considered but metallic alloys are also of interest. You will be involved in several research collaborative projects aiming to understand growth mechanisms while searching for new and improved materials. Your work will involve growth and characterization of these films. Characterization includes extensive XRD and (S)TEM. You may also be involved in development of new experimental set-ups.
A Postdoc will essentially carry out research. The position may also involve teaching, but during no more than a fifth of work time.
Qualifications
The position requires a doctorate or an equivalent degree from a foreign university. The doctorate shall have been obtained no longer than three years before the expiration date of the application.
The candidate for the position should have extensive experience in reactive thin film growth by arc deposition and/or magnetron sputtering and materials characterization by XRD and TEM. Expertise in laser based characterization methods (FTIR or BLS) and/or surface characterization techniques (XPS, ERDA or AFM) are considered as extra merits.
International applicants must attach a statement on oral and written English skill; IELTS (Academic) 6.5 overall (no subscore below 5.5) or TOEFL (iBT) 90 (written, minimum 20).
Appointment time
