Duties:
We are looking for a postdoctor who can develop and use models for simulation and analysis of biogas systems regarding techno-economic and environmental aspects. The work includes design of energy system scenarios, which involves biogas plants with different methanation- and upgrading technologies. The work also includes the development of models for biogas systems where e.g. biological methanation of syngas (H2, CO, CO2) from thermal gasification of biomass, or where methanation of CO2 from biogas and H2 from electrolysis of water can be included. Evaluation of opportunities and limitations regarding technology choice, economy and environmental impact of the various biogas systems can consider both life cycle and techno-economic perspectives. The work is conducted as a part of ongoing projects and collaboration platforms, e.g. The Biogas Solutions Research Center https://liu.se/forskning/biogas-research-center. You are expected to develop your own ideas and approaches, and to participate in teaching and cooperate with PhD-students in the topic area.

Qualifications:
Postdoctoral appointments are career-developing positions for junior researchers. The applicant should hold a PhD in technology or engineering with a specialization relevant for the research area. You must have documented skills and experiences in computer-based modeling with e.g. Matlab / Simulink or software packages for life cycle assessment. Experience of biogas systems for anaerobic digestion of biodegradable materials is required, and knowledge about the Swedish and European energy systems is an advantage. The applicant must have the ability to independently initiate, lead, carry out and complete research projects and to generate and publish the results in international scientific journals. The holder of the position must be able to communicate fluently in English (in writing and orally). Good knowledge of Swedish is an advantage. We put great emphasis on personal traits. Analytical and problem-solving ability, motivation and ability to work independently as well as in a team are considered important qualities for this position.
