Who are we?
Volvo Cars is a company on a mission; to bring traditional car manufacturing into a connected, sustainable and smart future. Since 1927, we have been a brand known for our commitment to safety, creating innovative cars that make life less complicated for our consumers. In 2010, we decided to transform our business, resulting in a totally new generation of cars and technologies, as well as steady growth and record sales. Today, we’re expanding our global footprint in Europe, China and the US, and we’re on the lookout for new talent. We are constantly pushing our own skills and abilities to drive change in the automobile industry like never before. We are looking for innovative, committed people to join us in this endeavour and create safe, sustainable and connected cars. We believe in the power of people and will challenge and support you to reach your full potential. Join us and be part of Volvo Cars’ journey into the future.
About us
At Connected Experience, you will be a key contributor to the next generation of Volvo premium cars. Together with other engineers around the world, you and your team will create innovative connected car technology that makes life less complicated and more enjoyable for people. Our daily work includes transforming ideas into innovations in order to meet the high standards of future vehicles.
To strengthen our team and collaboration with research, we are looking for a post-doctoral position within antennas together with Lund University for the research project “Glass-Integrated Vehicular Antenna Systems (GIVAS)”. The GIVAS project aims to provide hidden antenna solutions that are integrated in glass and solar panels. The post-doctoral researcher’s task is to establish a reliable simulation approach when dealing with antenna integration in complex car glass, and subsequently utilize the approach to design several antennas with tough requirements imposed by both the application and physical constraints. Experimental validation is central to the work, to confirm that virtual prototyping is feasible for this kind of design problem. Apart from delivering prototypes of the achieved designs for real cars, the results are expected to be published in high-quality journals and conferences.
What´s in it for you
This position puts you at the forefront of automotive trends for antenna design. The increasing use of glass in the upper part of cars presents opportunities for hidden antenna design, as compared to a full-metallic construction. Furthermore, the glass body design also lends itself to the integration of on-glass solar cells, which is a promising future trend due to the tremendous public interest in promoting green energy in every aspect of our daily lives.
You will work closely with Lund University to continue to strengthen the antenna competence and leverage knowledge that has already been built up. You will also work closely with the antenna experts and the team at Volvo Cars to use the long-term experience that has been built up around antenna design and quality for the automotive industry. Through Volvo Cars, you will also get the possibility to interact directly with suppliers to get the latest trends.
You and your skills
You have a strong background in academia with excellent communications skills and a genuine interest in technology. You can work independently and take required actions on your own initiative. You are a fast learner with an analytical and solution-based mindset. Your technical competence and ability to collaborate to manage complex situations will bring out great decisions and technical solutions. We also expect you to have a Doctoral/PhD degree awarded in the field of antenna, preferably antenna for wireless communications. Being fluent in English, written and spoken is a requirement, and experience in the automotive industry is meritorious. Knowledge and experience in antenna fabrication, antenna measurement, and over-the-air antenna performance evaluation are as well meritorious. Additionally, travel may be required in this position ~10%.
