Field of subject for the position: Bioinformatics of Microbial Ecology
Placement: Kalmar
Extent and period: The basis for a postdoctoral position is 100 % position for no longer than a maximum of two years.
Job description
The position will involve applying bioinformatics to large scale ‘omics’ data sets as related to questions within microbial ecology. These projects can include one or more of microbial adaptations to climate change, the deep biosphere, biotechnological processes applied to mining and metal extraction, and acid sulfate soils.
20 % of the work can include teaching and tutoring in the undergraduate and graduate level.
Requirements
Qualified for the position is one who holds a PhD, or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD in bioinformatics, environmental microbiology or equivalent, and who has completed their degree no more than three years before the application deadline.
Applicants must not have previously been employed as a postdoctoral fellow for more than a year in the same or related subject area at Linnaeus University.
Specific requirements refer to
• Knowledge of handling and analyzing large scale ‘omics’ data sets. The candidate can be either a bioinformatics specialist with experience of ‘omics’ or a microbial ecologist with a solid background in using bioinformatics
• Experience of applying bioinformatics to questions within microbial ecology including (meta)genomics and (meta)transcriptomics
• High proficiency in written and spoken English.
