Kalmar Maritime Academy, faculty of technology, at the Linnaeus University, Sweden, invites applications for one postdoctoral position.

The Kalmar Maritime Academy was founded in 1842 and is situated in the city of Kalmar, Sweden. Kalmar Maritime Academy has a long history of educating mariners and the research environment is growing. Currently research group consists of two professors, three lecturers, one researcher and three PhD-students. The research at the department is focusing on the seafarers' daily activities and work situation, the optimization of the operational management of ships and the environmental effects of shipping.

 

Field of subject for the position: Human Factors with emphasis on interaction design, human-computer interaction, human-automation teaming

 

Placement: Kalmar, Sweden

 

Extent: 100 % for two years

 

Duties:

The postdoc fellowship will be connected to ongoing research projects with a focus on human-automation teaming. The postdoc fellow will be responsible for the design and evaluation of potential scenarios for future maritime traffic services.  

 

The postdoctoral researcher will be a part of a research group that analyses the on-board staff's experiences, attitudes and behaviours. The research activities will to a large extent build upon data collection through interviews, focus groups, questionnaires and experimental evaluations in simulated environments.

The position also includes cooperation with researchers and PhD-students both internally and with other external parties within the shipping sector. At the most 20% time can be dedicated to teaching and other departmental tasks.

 

Qualifications:
The postdoctoral fellowship requires a PhD degree (or an academic degree we assess as equivalent) with specialisation in human factors, interaction design, human-computer interaction or similar. The doctorate shall have been obtained no longer than three years before the expiration date of the application. Applicants must not have previously been employed as a postdoctoral fellow for more than a year in the same or related subject area at Linnaeus University. Eligibility for this position also requires experience in both qualitative and quantitative research approaches. Proficiency in written and spoken English is also required.

 

 

Assessment criteria:

Documented experience of research with simulations and proven knowledge of human performance measurements is highly meritorious, as is experience of quantitative studies. Applicants are expected to have good analytical skills and ability to conduct research within the described area. Interpersonal skills and flexibility are of great importance.

 

For this position, the applicant will be selected through a qualitative overall assessment of the competences and skills, assessed most suitable to conduct research and contribute to a successful development of the research environment as well as to the applicant's own potential for a successful career as a teacher and researcher.
