Arbetsbeskrivning
Are you interested in sustainable food production and consumption, and more specifically in the combined nutritional and environmental impacts of food? Do you have a PhD in nutrition or food science? Then maybe you are the one we are looking for!
About the role
We are now applying for a postdoctoral fellow to plan and perform research in a project aiming to evaluate how to optimize the combined nutritional and environmental effects of plant-based meat substitutes, considering e.
g. choice of raw material and process technology. The project is part of the research centre FINEST (Food Innovation Enabling Sustainable Transition), funded by the Swedish research council FORMAS (https://www.ri.se/en/finest/vision-och-malsattningar).
Within this project nutritional assessments of foods will be performed theoretically (not clinical studies) e.g. by applying/developing nutritional indicators or scenario analyses. Environmental impact assessments and combined nutritional and environmental assessments of food will be performed in collaboration with experts within life cycle assessment (LCA).
Based on the overall project idea, you are expected to take responsibility for the final design of the project and the project deliverables, including establishing necessary internal and external contacts, required for the project to succeed. You will be assisted by senior scientists within the team of Sustainable Consumption and Production, providing key expertise on environmental assessments of foods and nutrition/food science. You will also benefit from networks and knowledge transfer from both internal and external projects at RISE, whereof several – including FINEST – engage both academic and industrial partners.
Sustainable nutrition is an area of expertise which focuses on combined nutritional/health and environmental impacts of food products and diets. The group is part of Sustainable Consumption and Production, which consists of 2 units comprising 31 persons, with expertise on sustainability assessments of food consumption and production using Life cycle assessment (LCA) and a holistic perspective, to identify opportunities for a sustainable transformation of the food system along the entire food supply chain.
The position is a full-time employment at RISE for one year, alternatively half-time employment for two years. The location will be in Lund (preferably) or Gothenburg. For the right person, placement in Uppsala is a possibility.
The project will be run in parallel with another post doc-project within FINEST focusing on sustainability assessment models.
Who are you?
You have a PhD in nutrition, food science or related fields, and have preferably graduated within the last three years. Knowledge about environmental impact of foods and LCA is meriting, as well as experience of the food industry and/or food processing.
You are a curious person who likes to challenge yourself and look for solutions. You are motivated, driven and take initiatives; you have the capacity to work independently but also like to work in teams.
A good proficiency in spoken and written English is required. It is meriting if you also speak and write Swedish. Experience of writing research applications is also meriting.
You have a high scientific integrity. We believe you want to work in an interdisciplinary context, and you consider societal actors such as companies, authorities and non-governmental organizations to have an important role, together with researchers, in the transition to a sustainable society.
Are we right for each other?
We cannot promise you an easy task, but we can promise you dedicated colleagues and some truly engaging and important societal challenges to tackle. You will work in a dynamic environment offering professional and personal development opportunities. At RISE, we want you to succeed and feel good, because together with your colleagues, you contribute to a sustainable future. With us, you get the opportunity to make a real difference. Welcome to the entire Sweden’s research institute and innovation partner.
