Postdoctoral fellow in translational breast cancer research

Molecular pathology with focus on translational breast cancer research. The project is focused on understanding how the tumour microenvironment will affect tumour progression and specifically cancer stem cell properties with the long term aim to develop novel treatment principles for breast cancer specifically targeting key communication systems. We have earlier shown that for example hypoxia will influence the proportion of cancer stem cells in various directions depending on the subtype of breast cancer that will be affected by different amounts of oxygen. Within the project we have also identified various factors and communication systems that mediate the effects and within the extended project we will now study the various systems in detail in order to define target proteins and pathways. The knowledge can be used to develop novel breast cancer therapy schedules that specifically will target cancer stem cell signaling between various cell types in the tumour. The project will be focused on breast cancer but different types of cells will be used in model systems that are based on cell lines as well primary cancer samples coming from surgery. Focus will be set on different types of cancer stem cells and how the properties are linked to cell division and activities as well as malignant properties. Job assignments: To independently and together with other coworkers carry out research of a high international standard and report research findings in articles and at conferences. Supervision of students and shared responsibility for laboratory techniques and equipment will also be included in job assignments.

Eligibility: An achieved doctoral degree is compulsory for a position as postdoctor at Göteborg University.
