Postdoctoral in integrated photonics for second-order nonlinear optics

Postdoctoral in integrated photonics for second-order nonlinear optics

Arbetsbeskrivning

Information about the research
Lithium Niobate On Insulator (LNOI) is a relatively new material platform which exhibits a strong second-order optical nonlinearity which is extremely interesting for applications that require optical modulation or second-harmonic generation. While device fabrication in LNOI is notoriously difficult recent experiments have shown great progress and low-loss waveguides have been demonstrated by several groups world-wide.

The aim of this project is to develop novel photonic integrated devices in LNOI or similar materials for applications in optical communication, optical sensing and frequency comb generation.

The project is funded by the Swedish and European Research Councils.

Major responsibilities
You will help us to develop novel photonic integrated devices in materials with second-order nonlinearities such as LNOI or BTO. You will design the device circuits and develop the fabrication processes and fabricate the devices inside the department's clean-room facilities. The fabricated devices, including microring resonantors and electro-optic modulators for frequency comb generation, will then be characterised and together with other researchers in the photonics laboratory you will demonstrate their application to systems experiments in optical communication and sensing. You are expected to help in supervising masters and PhD students working on related projects.

Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).

Qualifications
We are looking for a highly motivated individual, who is capable of working independently but in collaboration within a multi-disciplinary research team. You should have a PhD degree or equivalent, in physics, engineering or a related subject area and have significant experience in nanophotonic device fabrication and design. You have excellent communication skills in written and spoken English. Experience with student supervision is advantageous.
