Based at our centre in Gothenburg, you will be in a global pharmaceutical environment, contributing to live projects right from the start. You will take part in a comprehensive training programme, including a focus on drug discovery and development, given access to our existing Postdoctoral research, and encouraged to pursue your own independent research in state-of-the-art laboratories. What is more, you will have the support of a leading academic advisor, who will provide you with the guidance and knowledge you need to develop your career. The AstraZeneca Postdoc programme is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to the future of medical science. It is a newly expanding programme spanning a range of therapeutic areas across a wide range of disciplines.
AstraZeneca is a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialisation of prescription medicines for some of the world?s most serious diseases. But we are more than one of the worlds leading pharmaceutical companies. At AstraZeneca, we are proud to have a unique workplace culture that inspires innovation and collaboration. Here, employees are empowered to express diverse perspectives and are made to feel valued, energised and rewarded for their ideas and creativity.
Respiratory, Inflammation and Autoimmunity is one of AstraZenecas main therapy areas, where our aim is to transform asthma and COPD treatment by innovative therapies for asthma and COPD.
The opportunity
With this exciting post-doc project Molecular mechanism for CC16 mediated mucosal protection in the lung you will conduct independent research in a vibrant research environment while teaming up with other AstraZeneca scientists dedicated to bring novel therapies to patients suffering from respiratory disease. You will have access to a spectrum of cutting edge technologies (e.g. precise genome editing by CRISPR) and work in close collaboration with world leading expertise in COPD pathology and CC16 biology at Harvard Medical School. This project has the potential of break through science in the area of lung protection and repair and publications in high-impact journals and you?ll be encouraged to attend and present at international scientific conferences.
As a Postdoctoral Scientist- RIA you will be:
Establishing a test system which can be used to study the molecular mechanism for CC16 mediated mucosal protection in the lung
Demonstrating that CC16 mediates mucosal protection by engaging receptors on epithelial cells and to identify these receptors
Identifying key intracellular signalling pathway(s) involved in CC16 signalling
Validating the role of the identified receptors/pathways in CC16 mediated protection of lung epithelial cells and their link to COPD
Requirements, Education and Experience
Essential:
A PhD in Biological Science and an understanding of cellular signalling
Expertise with standard molecular biology techniques and mammalian cell culturing
A genuine commitment to medical science
