Postdoctoral position

Arbetsbeskrivning

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering works with every aspect of construction in the community – houses to live in, roads to travel on, and water to drink – from planning to maintenance, taking into account the environment, energy and economics.

The Department has around 170 employees, divided between seven research divisions and an administrative team, and is based at the Johanneberg Campus. When it comes to research and education, our Department is at the forefront, and through our work, we contribute to a sustainable built environment.

Postdoctoral position in Cement and concrete based on industrial by-products

Information about the research
The research at the division of Building Technology is divided into four research areas: Building Physics, Building Materials, Infrastructure Physics and Sustainable Building. All research groups aim at contributing to a more resource efficient society and to a better environment.

The research in the Building Materials group is focused on improvement and durability of various kinds of materials such as cementitious materials and products, smart polymers, asphalt and phase change materials. The research activities ranges from the nano/micro- to the macro scale, i.e. from structural determinations to the performance of the materials.

The research focus of the Postdoctoral position is green cementitious materials as replacement for ordinary cement. The work ranges from large scale laboratory testing to analysis of the microstructure. The aim is to relate nano/micro structural characteristics with more large scale material properties and performance to be able to make necessary improvements to meet requested properties.

Major responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the Postdoctoral position are to carry out experimental research as well as be involved in the teaching at the division. The research concerns the replacement of cement with alternative materials such as industrial by-products, and how such materials should be activated to meet requested requirements.

The teaching will comprise 20 % of the working time and the main topics are materials and properties of materials used for buildings and constructions.

Position summary
