Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences Department of Environmental Assessment, Uppsala Postdoctoral position - Aquatic assessment in changing landscapes The Department of Environment Assessment (www.ma.slu.se) has a unique national responsibility for assessing the condition of Swedish surface waters with respect to both water chemistry and the aquatic biota. This mission includes documenting changes in time and space, identifying the causes of those changes, and, where appropriate, evaluate potential countermeasures. This mission is pursued through a comprehensive program of monitoring, research and development, as well as teaching. The department is concerned with identifying human influence on aquatic ecosystems (both biology and chemistry), as well as distinguishing those influences from natural variability. The importance of pursuing these issues in a landscape perspective has become increasingly apparent, both with regards to fundamental research issues and the commissioned research which a number of the two dozen researchers at the department have been involved in.To complement the department's work, we are seeking a post-doctoral researcher interested in revealing how human pressures (e.g.eutrophication, acidification) influence aquatic ecosystems against a background of natural and climatic variability. The department is responsible for implementing the national monitoring programmes of lakes, watercourses, and small forested catchments. We are interested in researchers who will be able to work innovatively and independently with these data, supported by extensive GIS databases, to explore the connections between landscapes and surface waters.Candidates with backgrounds in biology, ecology and geochemistry are encouraged to apply.Applicants should have been awarded their Ph.D.within the past three years, or are expecting to graduate shortly. The position is for one year, with the possibility of seeking a second year. For further information please contact Prof.SLU is an Equal Opportunity Employer. The application should consist of a letter of intent, a proposed research program and a CV.Please mark your application with reference number 16/07 and submit it to the Registrar of SLU, P.O.Box 7070, SE-750 07 Uppsala, Sweden, no later than March 2, 2007.
