Postdoctoral position in trace element speciation analysis A two year postdoctoral position in trace element speciation analysis is open at the department of chemistry. The research in our group concerns fundamental aspects, methodological developments and applications of speciation analysis of trace elements in environmental, biological and industrial samples. The main objectives are to provide fundamental understanding of chemical speciation, mechanisms and rate of reactions and interactions in the aquatic and terrestrial environments as well as in biological systems. The research is focused on formation of mobile and bioavailable forms of Hg in aquatic environments as well as fluxes and metabolism of Pt-containing chemotherapeutic substances in malignant cells. The research for the open position will focus on studies of interactions between metal species and sulfur-containing ligands. The project will be oriented towards environmental/biogeochemical or biological/medical sciences, partly depending on the candidate's interests. The analytical techniques to be used are based on combining LC-ICPMS and LC-ESIMS/MS analysis.ICPMS is used for selective metal identification and quantification and ESIMS/MS for structural characterization of metal compounds and their adducts. We are seeking candidates with documented skills in trace element speciation analysis and experience of the combined use of elemental and molecular MS techniques.Experience of isotope dilution analysis techniques and studies on interactions between metals and sulfur containing ligands (such as inorganic sulfur compounds, humic substances, peptides or proteins) are valuable. The candidate must have a PhD degree or plan to graduate during the spring 2008.Applications should include description of past research accomplishments including a list of publications, curriculum vitae, up to 10 relevant publications, a research plan, and the names of three references. The postdoc position is planned for a period of 2 years starting as soon as possible.Documents sent electronically should be in MS Word or PDF format.
