Arbetsbeskrivning
Do you want to contribute to improving human health?
We are looking for an ambitious postdoctoral fellow with solid genome-wide bioinformatics and computational biology skills to join our highly accomplished team.
We offer a stimulating environment in a rapidly moving research frontier. The successful candidate will be part of a cluster of other bioinformaticians working on similar topics.
Your mission
The Buggert group conducts innovative studies of cell-mediated immunity in health, cancer, and viral disease. These studies are translational in nature and involve the usage of cutting-edge bulk- and single-cell technologies, including high-parameter flow cytometry, gene expression, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, TCR-seq, and proteomics analysis to dissect the heterogeneity and function of memory T cell immunity. Through these platforms, we study different aspects of human memory T cell biology, with an overall aim to i) study the heterogeneity of circulating and resident memory T cells in human organ donors, ii) identify alternative functions of memory T cells in human tissues, and iii) understand how memory T cells maintain control of tumors and viral infections, such as HIV and SARS-CoV-2. The postdoctoral candidate will collaborate closely with our team members to continue the successful line of investigations utilizing single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), scATAC-seq, and other similar technologies to dissect human memory T cell biology in health and viral disease.
The postdoctoral candidate will be a part of the Center for Infectious Medicine (CIM), Karolinska Institutet, a nationally leading and internationally competitive center for human translational immunology and infectious diseases research. The center consists of 17 independent research groups.
We are seeking one, potentially two, postdoctoral candidates with a Ph.D. who will work as an integrated researcher and bioinformatician in our team, being involved in several ongoing projects and driving their projects forward. We already have large sets of high-throughput sequencing data, including scRNA-seq (10x Genomics) and ATAC-seq data, as well as multicolor flow cytometry data of human T cells, which will be analyzed in close collaboration with our team members
Your profile
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, the candidate must hold a Ph.D. in immunology, bioinformatics, computational biology, or equivalent, and demonstrate research expertise and documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.
The candidate should have been trained in computer science, bioinformatics, or computational biology during her/his Ph.D. studies. The candidate should fully master (requirement) R, be proficient in Python (Python Data Stack tools such as NymPY, SciPY, Pandas, scikit), and have solid Unix/Linux experience and statistical knowledge. The candidate should have experience in genome-wide NGS data analysis, particularly in working with scRNAseq from FASTQ to analyze data with 10x and other formats. Experience working in version-controlled systems and high-performance computing for analyses is meriting. Other merits include the ability to formalize biological questions into computational models to drive projects forward and provide advice on the experimental design before data generation. The candidate should be self-motivated, have good communication skills, and have a proven ability to interact effectively and work productively in an interdisciplinary team. Fluency in English is a requirement.
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
