Postdoctoral position in Biophysical Chemistry

Arbetsbeskrivning

Chemistry and Chemical Engineering is the largest department at Chalmers with research ranging from the most fundamental level to a level close to application in industry and society. The research activities reach from DNA-research and biomaterials to high temperature corrosion, catalysis and recycling. The Department is also heavily committed to teaching at the undergraduate, graduate, as well as postgraduate level in these areas.

Health, natural resources, sustainable energy and materials are some of our lead words and our vision is “Through curiosity and knowledge towards a sustainable world”.

We have approximately 300 employees, divided into four research and one administrative division. We are situated at campus Johanneberg in the middle of Gothenburg.

Information about the project
The project is aimed at the manipulation and characterization of surface adhered biological membranes in order to exploit their 2D fluidic properties in sensing applications, and for interfaces to biological cells.

Major responsibilities
The project's focus is on the fabrication of functionalized 2D lipid films; major parts are the design, fabrication and characterization of engineered surfaces, and the implementation of functionalized membranes in micro- and nanofluidic devices. The observation and characterization of the structures will be performed by means of light and surface microscopy.

Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).

Qualifications

- Completed PhD degree in biophysics, biophysical chemistry or material science
- Practical knowledge of microfabrication procedures/clean room experience
- Working knowledge of image analysis (Matlab, Phython or similar) Successfully completed programming education during undergraduate studies is meritorious
- Experience with biological samples/cell culturing is of advantage
