Shipping and Marine Technology covers a wide research field, ranging from environmental research to the development of the latest technologies for propulsion and navigation of ships. Our research aims to improve ship efficiency, marine environment, and working conditions for the ship personnel.
We educate master mariners, marine engineers, and shore-based personnel in shipping. The department currently has about 100 employees, of whom 85 are researchers and teachers at our four research divisions. The department is situated on the expansive Campus Lindholmen. We have Sweden’s most extensive simulator centre for marine transportation and navigation.
Major responsibilities
The research project is about development of a marine traffic model for devising and evaluating interventions that improve marine traffic performance – its energy efficiency, transportation times and costs, environmental impact, resilience, and safety. It is funded by Chalmers Area of Advance Transport and the candidate is expected to be on contact with the other Post Docs funded by this area of advance to seek for cooperation and synergy effects in research, primarily within the area "Efficient and green supply chains".
The appointment is a scholarship for 1+1 years. The majority of the working time is devoted to own research. Included in the work may also be co-supervision of B.Sc. and M.Sc. thesis students and participation in course on the International Master's Program Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering.
The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.
Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).
Qualifications
The applicant should have a PhD degree in Shipping and Marine Technology, Ocean Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Mathematical Sciences, or Computer Sciences. The PhD degree of the applicant should not be older than 2 years. Documented experience and knowledge about statistical analysis, reliability analysis and risk analysis is a requirement. Experience in teaching within the field of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering is an advantage. Strong writing and oral skills in English are required. We are looking for a candidate that can work independently and take initiative. She/he should be able to communicate results with the rest of the group and our students.
