Planning with Youth is a research project which aims to contribute to sustainable spatial planning by focusing on meaningful engagement and participatory tools and methods, and on current challenges planners face when engaging youth in participatory spatial planning processes. We integrate methods for knowledge synthesis with methods used in qualitative empirical inquiry. In collaboration with artists, educators, and experts in serious games, we will test-explore a collection of alternative (participatory) tools, and develop recommendations for more meaningful, inclusive and forward looking participatory planning processes aiming for more sustainable living environments in Sweden, and elsewhere. The project is funded by FORMAS (the Swedish Research Council for Sustainable Development) and is a collaborative endeavor between researchers based at Södertörn University and researchers based at Copenhagen University (Denmark) , Wageningen University (the Netherlands), and Winnipeg University (Canada). Please note that travel for conducting field work and implement project activities, in Sweden and abroad, is required for this position.
