Postdoctoral position in extended business models for logistics service providers
Information about the division and the research
The post-doc position is affiliated to the Division of Logistics & Transportation, a dynamic research environment within transport, logistics and supply chain management. The division pursues a problem-oriented and inter-disciplinary research, with strong emphasis on industry relevance but also high visibility in leading academic journals. The key aim of our research activity is to address societal challenges and contribute to industrial leadership.
Our research has strong reference to two the department's three profile areas, namely Supply Chain Management and Operations Management. The position is partly funded by Chalmers Transport Area of Advance and the candidate is expected to work with other post-docs funded by this area of advance to seek synergy effects in the research.
In order to further activate the logistics service provider (LSP) in the development of more efficient transport/logistics solutions to the market, there is a need for new types of incentives. These are to encourage the LSP to take an increased responsibility, physically as well as financially. New business arrangements will require an integration of the LSPs, the senders and the receivers of shipments. Such arrangements will pave the way for changed distribution systems and -flows. The post doc will contribute to the development of business models supporting LSPs in assuming extended roles and increasing responsibility. This will concern the flow of goods by interacting directly with the shipper/receiver. The aim of the research is in this context to develop the actors’ roles, the division of labour and responsibilities in the intersection between the customer's supply chains and the logistics service industry. Currently there are several on-going research projects of relevance for new logistics business models and the post doc will have the possibility to join and be part of continued activities in the area.
