Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences Department of Food Science, Uppsala POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN FOOD SCIENCE The Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences is the largest of the four faculties of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Sweden.The faculty, which is located in Uppsala 70 km north of Stockholm, covers a wide range of disciplines, spanning over agriculture, food and biotechnology to natural resources, environment and landscape planning. Research environment: Research and education at the Department of Food Science focus on food composition and follow the food chain via preparation and processing to food raw materials.The composition, quality (sensory,health,safety) and functionality of food are considered in relation to primary production, processing by the food industry and the interests of the individual consumer.The research is divided into four areas; dairy products, food chemistry, meat and fish quality and plant product science (www.lmv.slu.se).The department is a part of Biocentrum-SLU Uppsala Cluster (Plants, Foods, Microorganisms & Molecules). Job description: A post-doctoral position is available at the division of Dairy Products to conduct research related to the effect of proteolytic activity in bovine milk on milk quality/processing properties.The on-going research at the Dairy Products division is concentrated to milk protein composition/polymorphism in relation to processing properties including cheese making.The influence of mastitis on milk composition/properties is also another major topic studied.The successful candidate is expected to work closely with colleagues within a research team at the Division of Dairy products, Department of Food Science, SLU, to strengthen the research in the area of milk proteins and milk quality. Eligibility: Applicants should have a PhD degree in Food Science or other relevant area with experience in analytical protein biochemistry, e.g.HPLC, FPLC, PAGE, capillary electrophoresis and other analytical tools.Basic knowledge in rheology is advantageous.The position is full-time and will be granted for a period of two years, starting in the autumn of 2008.
