Postdoctoral position in Hydrometallurgical process

Arbetsbeskrivning

Information about the project
The research of the post doc position is based on the project Enviree (www.enviree.eu). The aim of the project is to develop a sustainable and complete extraction process for REE from secondary sources, like mining slag. This will help to ensure that the supply of REE will be available in the future. The project will develop a competitive, environmentally friendly recovery technique for secondary mineral sources and will also ensure that knowledge about holistic mineral recovery is transferred inside the project to all the specialized partners. In addition to these more general achievements, the participating companies will each have their particular gain from this project while making sure that not only generic, but specialized, dedicated knowledge is obtained and directly put to use in the field. The project is currenlty divided into six work packages based on the different areas, starting with analysis of content, followed by methods and lifecycle analysis. Chalmers is responsible for the third work package, where the whole hydro chemical separation process will be developed and tested in a pilot plant scale. There will be a close link between the actual process development and the laboratory scale experiments in order to shorten the lead times further and identifying possible scale up issues.

Major responsibilities
Your major responsibilities as a post-doctoral fellow is to conduct research which will focus on the development of hydrometallurgical process for separation rare earth elements, involving solvent extraction methods. The position involves extensive work in a chemical laboratory and adapting technical equipment, as well as possibilities of supervising undergraduate students.

Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.
