Arbetsbeskrivning
At School of Health and Medical sciences
This position is in Medicine, field of biomedicine and directed towards functional bioinformatics. The main part of this position is devoted to bioinformatics research, to discover diagnostic, predictive and prognostic biosignatures, for studies carried out within NGBI Research Environment at Örebro University and Örebro University Hospital. Methods for integrative functional bioinformatics will be further developed.
Duties
For patients suffering from IBS or IBD, molecular features and clinical data should be optimally combined to find natural subgroups, eligible for different treatment options. Existing methods of machine learning are further developed to include known markers, mostly based on clinical variables, as well as an optimal combination of molecular markers, filtered from different high-throughput approaches, including Next Generation Sequencing, OMICs profiles and fMRI data. Variable importance profiling for the purposed biosignatures will be used to conclude on mechanistic hypotheses for nutrition-gut-brain interactions important for disease course development in IBS and IBD.
In addition, 10 % of this postdoctoral position will be devoted to establishing a combined clinical-molecular profiling database environment, as well as to develop systematic approaches for data–management, as a basis for systematic biosignature development.
Other duties will include participation in teaching, providing postgraduate students with project work as well as cooperation with PhD students in functional bioinformatics.
Qualifications
To qualify for appointment as a postdoctoral position is the one who obtained a PhD or a foreign degree equivalent to a doctorate, and who have completed their degree within three years before application deadline.
This position requires advanced knowledge of OMICs data analysis, statistical learning, mathematics, statistics and programming skills (e.g. R, Matlab, python, bash-scripting, cluster communication). In addition, knowledge about database concepts, interface development, and experiences in curating databases with molecular/clinical data are important merits. The successful candidate has experiences in interdisciplinary communication from the biomedical field. Strengths on the theoretical / developmental side as well as for database development are useful.
Other information
The assignment is 100% and time-limited for two years. Appointment in the autumn 2015 and place of service is Örebro. Individual wage applies. For more information, please contact Professor Robert Brummer or senior lecturer Dirk Repsilber.
