Postdoctoral position in Recycling of metal oxides for biofuel conversion

Arbetsbeskrivning

Information about the research/the project/the division
The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering is the largest Department at Chalmers with approximately 330 employees. The research focus is sustainablility and a better environment.

At the Division of Energy and Materials we have a diverse research activity, focusing on different aspects of material and energy related questions.  The division includes Environmental Inorganic  Chemistry, working with applications of high temperature corrosion with research applied to fuel cells, biomass and waste fired boilers and the chemistry of minerals and metals in combustion and gadification of biofuels. We also perform research in the field of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), Oxide Chemistry and Theoretical Chemistry involving advanced modeling.

The Industrial Materials Recycling group focuses mainly on the recycling of metals including Rare Earth Metals (REM) from different secondary sources, including ashes, with different methods. The Industrial Materials Recycling group develops sustainable recycling methods for metals from waste electronics, batteries and ash from combustion of waste derived fuels. Both hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical methods are included. In addition, the group has research activities in the areas of polymer recycling and cleaning of contaminated waters, such as industrial waste waters.

The Nuclear Chemistry group focuses on research for applications in the nuclear industry: novel nuclear fuels, research relating to accidents, final repositories and the reuse of used nuclear fuel through partitioning and transmutation.  Also included is research related to radiopharmaceutical applications and radioecology.

This project is in collaboration with Assoc. Prof. Henrik Leion from the same division.

Major responsibilities
Your major responsibilities as a post-doctoral fellow is to conduct research which will focus on the characterization, treatment and recycling of metal oxides resulting from a biofuel conversion process. The developed method will be the base for a sustainable use of metal oxide oxygen carriers in combustion and gasification. These oxides are expected to be reused either in the same process or as resource in another process. The position involves extensive work in a chemical laboratory and adapting technical equipment as well as possibility of supervising undergraduate students.

Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.

Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).

Qualifications
You must be a graduated PhD. The degree should generally not be older than three years. You must have excellent knowledge of English and proven experience as an experimental  worker in a chemical laboratory. Good ability to solve technical and mechanical tasks relating to process development. Ability to analyze and write scientific articles. You have to be self-motivated and have a problem solving attitude along with a great ability to collaborate with others. In your work you are well organized and structured.

Chalmers continuously strives to be an attractive employer. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers.
