Information about the project
This is a call for a PhD position in the Data Science and AI division at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Chalmers University of Technology.

The position is related to the foundations of reinforcement learning and in particular with respect to fairness and privacy. We are mainly looking for candidates with experience in one or more of (1) bandit algorithms (2) Bayesian reinforcement learning (3) Approximate Bayesian methods such a stochastic variational inference (4) Regret bounds or other learning theory (5) Fairness and privacy

The position is funded by Vetenskapsrådet, a major funding organisation for basic research in Sweden.

Major responsibilities
The main responsibility of the candidate will be to pursue research in the area of the position. The candidate will have the chance to work with the group members and collaborators at Chalmers and abroad, including the co-supervision of PhD students. The candidate is encouraged to supervise/teach up to 20% of their time.

Qualifications
Applicants must have a doctorate, PhD or equivalent degree, in a relevant field.  The degree should generally not be older than three years.

To qualify, candidates must have experience in one or more of (1) bandit algorithms (2) Bayesian reinforcement learning (3) Approximate Bayesian methods such a stochastic variational inference (4) Regret bounds or other learning theory (5) Fairness and privacy (6) game theory and mechanism design, as evidence by publications in appropriate venues.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement, but Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The employment is limited (temporary) for 24 months.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is a joint department at Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg, with activities on two campuses in the city of Gothenburg.
