Postdoctoral position in Sensor Cleaning

Arbetsbeskrivning

Information about the research
Vehicle safety has improved significantly the past decades thanks to the use of advanced sensor systems. One limitation, however, is sensor blindness at harsh weather conditions due to surface attachment of snow and dust. The physics of particle adherence to the sensor surface is complex and involves flow around the vehicle  coupled to chemical/physical interactions with the surface. This project focus on providing innovative methods for estimating sensor blindness during harsh weather conditions. Also the effect of various sensor cleaning systems will be studied. This will be done by a combination of modelling and experimental work with the goal to create models for the interaction between particles and surfaces, including particle removal, and link them to vehicle flow models to improve the sensors availability.

At Chemical Engineering Design the research is focused on general chemical process engineering, including mixing and separation, powder technology, multi-phase flows and transport phenomena. The projects combine experimental and theoretical work and applications are found in the chemical, pharmaceutical,  pulp and paper, and food industries. At present six PhD candidates are working in these areas.

Major responsibilities
The Post-Doc will work within our particle technology group (presently 2 PhD candidates, 1 post-doc, 1 assistant professor) at Chalmers in close cooperation with Volvo Cars in Gothenburg.
