Arbetsbeskrivning

Postdoctoral position in wireless multimedia sensor networks (2 years) A full-time post-doctoral research position is available for two (2) years in the project "Digital Djurpark" (Digital Zoo). This is a joint position between Digital Media Laboratory, Umeå University, Sweden and CSIRO Autonomous Systems Laboratory, Brisbane, Australia. The successful candidate will spend one year at CSIRO and one year at Umeå University.Digital Media Laboratory (DML) is part of the Department of Applied Physics and Electronics (TFE), at Umeå University. The focus of research is on digital media signal processing. Two research themes have been specified: media computing and media communication.Media computing includes research on how to perceive, process, and render digital media while media communication addresses transportation and transmission of digital media over modern telecommunication systems and computer networks.CSIRO Autonomous Systems Lab, based in Brisbane Australia, has over 80 researchers focussing on a wide range of research topics in areas of sensor networks, robotics and adaptive systems. The goal of the project "Digital Djurpark" is to make Lycksele zoo more attractive by increasing the interaction between the visitor and the animals. The approach is to develop a wireless sensor network covering the whole zoo.The network will consist of hundreds of wireless sensors, which are able to configure themselves into a working network. The sensors could be collecting data as video, pictures, sound, and temperature. The plan is to put sensors on some of the animals too.The sensed data will be processed and semantic information will be used to support interaction design. We are seeking for a talented and highly motivated researcher with a track record in sensor networks along with a passion for developing innovative research solutions to real problems in a multi-disciplinary environment.Successful candidates will have skills in one or more of the following areas: - distributed signal processing or audio and video processing - network level programming languages including virtual machines, code distribution protocols and mobile software agents - real-time operating systems - network diagnostics and operational management tools - systems development and architecture To qualify for the position, the applicant should have a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent, preferably not more than 3 years old.The application should include a description of past research accomplishments, a curriculum vitae, including academic grades and a list of publications, and names of two reference persons.
