About us
RISE Research Institutes of Sweden is a leading research institute committed to driving innovation, sustainability, and technological advancement in Sweden and beyond.
With a focus on cutting-edge research and development, we collaborate with industry partners, academia, and government agencies to address critical challenges and create a brighter future for everyone.
The Unit for Intelligent Systems at RISE conducts research on deep learning and natural language processing in connection with the RISE Centre for Applied AI and the Swedish Centre for Impacts of Climate Extremes (CLIMES), a new Centre of Excellence founded by the Swedish Research Council. One of our focus areas is AI for the climate, where we explore how AI can help in mitigating and adapting to the effects of climate change, for example by analyzing biological diversity, modeling risks in circular business models, and using AI for efficiency and stability in agriculture. We are dedicated to developing resource-efficient models in all areas of AI, including natural language processing, where we also focus on multilingual models that can support all languages of the world.
About the role
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher who will work within the Swedish Centre for Impacts of Climate Extremes (CLIMES). CLIMES is a collaboration between Uppsala University, Lund University and RISE, and will be inaugurated in 2024. The centre is at the core of an interdisciplinary scientific community, and aims to lead an engaging series of meetings, international exchanges and training events. It also serves as a hub for various national and international research projects.
Activities within CLIMES have a broad focus on impacts of climate extremes: from financial losses to impacts on ecosystems to consequences for society and public health. While the postdoctoral researcher will be affiliated with the Intelligent Systems unit at RISE, collaboration with other center organizations and international partners is expected. The post-doc will work on AI for the analysis of impacts of climate extremes. Within this scope, there is substantial flexibility to explore various specific topics or approaches, but we expect the research to be connected to ongoing projects at RISE, such as mining information about climate extremes from online texts using natural language processing, or making use of soundscape analysis or earth observation data to understand impacts of climate extremes.
Who are you?
To be eligible for this position, candidates should possess a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computational Linguistics, or a related field. Preference will be given to applicants who have obtained their doctoral degree within the last three years leading up to the application deadline. A notable background in AI research is essential for consideration.
Merit will also be given to individuals with prior experience in researching climate-related topics that align with the ongoing projects at RISE and the research initiatives at CLIMES. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a genuine passion for research and thrive in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment. Having a strong network within the research community, as well as connections in the broader society, will be considered a notable strength.
Are we a good fit for each other?
At RISE, we value differences, and we firmly believe that diversity contributes to an innovative environment. We are a hybrid research organization that connects academia, industry, and the public sector, and we are passionate problem solvers who work on some of the most important and interesting issues in the world. At RISE, you will work in a stimulating environment that offers opportunities for both professional and personal development. Welcome to Sweden's national research institute and innovation partner!
