Research environment
The major part of the research at the faculty addresses the two research and educational profiles “Biological Interfaces” and “Health and Social Conditions in a Life Cycle Perspective”. The position will be active in Biological Interfaces, which has a focus on the interplay between materials, biomolecules, and cells, on molecular, nano, micro, and macroscopic levels. The faculty research is also linked to the research programme “Biofilms - Research Center for Biointerfaces” (www.mau.se/biofilms) which combines research with medical, dental, food, and environmental applications, at three faculties, in close collaboration with regional industry.
About the position
The purpose of this project is to develop Covid-19 virus receptors and sensors that combine the following features: fast response, high sensitivity and specificity, low cost (no expensive reagents) and robustness. The solution is based on rSAMs (reversible self-assembled monolayers), a biomimetic approach that can be quickly adapted to new epidemic threats and builds on an ongoing collaboration between Malmö University and external academic and industrial partners. The project aims to combine biomimetic membranes prepared by the rSAM technology with nanoplasmonic sensors. These will then be combined with LSPR sensors for direct virus detection and will be validated against currently used RT-qPCR virus tests. We are looking for a chemist with a strong background in any of the areas of organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, nanotechnology or microbiology who are enthusiastic about this project. If you have these qualifications and want to be part of an urgent project that can make a concrete global difference, you are welcome to apply.
Required Qualifications and Criteria for Assessment of Applicants
Candidates must have demonstrated scientific competence corresponding to a doctoral degree in organic chemistry. Candidates with a proven track record in supramolecular chemistry, stimuli responsive systems and host guest chemistry will be given preference. Moreover, the researcher must demonstrate documented merits required for establishing an independent research program attracting external funding.
