Arbetsbeskrivning
The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB) is among the largest departments of epidemiology in Europe with special focus on increasing our knowledge of the aetiology of different diseases. Our department consists of researchers, doctoral students, biostatisticians, data collectors and database administrators as well as administrative personnel, in total some 250 staff. The department is situated at campus Solna. Further information can be found at ki.se/meb
Division
A two-year postdoctoral research position (with the possibility for extension) is available within the biostatistics group at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm.
The biostatistics group comprises 4 professors, 5 senior researchers, 5 assistant professors, 3 post-docs, 16 Ph.D. students and 9 applied statisticians.
Members of the Biostatistics group conduct methodological research in a broad range of areas, including surrogates, causal inference, clinical trials, epidemiological methods, registry-based analysis methods, image analysis, flexible survival analysis, statistical genetics, and joint modeling of longitudinal data. The group collaborates within the department and with groups world wide on cancer treatment and diagnosis, psychiatric disorders, aging, transfusion medicine and HIV treatment.
Duties
A successful applicant will work on the development of retrospective study design from an existing HIV registry to investigate the, potentially causal, relationship between HIV treatment and markers of premature aging. Methodological development may be required in both the design and analysis of the resulting data, due to the incredibly complex system of biological mechanisms and inherent survivor bias.
Entry requirements
To be able to be employed as a post-doctoral researcher you have to have obtained a doctorate or have equivalent scientific competence, no more than three years before the last date of application (the term can be extended under special circumstances, such as sick-leave or parental leave. Reason, dates and extent must be clearly specified in the application and verified with relevant documentation).
The position requires a Ph.D. degree with a focus on statistics, biostatistics, or a closely related field. Experience in HIV research, observational study design for causal inference and mediation analysis are desirable. The applicant should have a strong interest in both methodology development and in applications.
Candidate should be able to work independently or as part of a group and must be able to collaborate with researchers from other disciplines. Candidate should have the ability to focus on a single goal without distraction when needed, but be curious and investigate alternatives when time allows.
Application process
An employment application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:
- A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
- A complete list of publications
- A summary of current work (no more than one page)
The application is to be submitted through the Varbi recruitment system.
Karolinska Institutet is one of the world’s leading medical universities. Its vision is to significantly contribute to the improvement of human health. Karolinska Institutet accounts for the single largest share of all academic medical research conducted in Sweden and offers the country’s broadest range of education in medicine and health sciences. The Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet selects the Nobel laureates in Physiology or Medicine.
Pursuant to the regulations of the Swedish National Archives, applications are kept on file for two years after the appointment has gained legal force. The regulations do not apply to attachments that have been printed or otherwise published.
Karolinska Institutet strives to provide a workplace that has approximately the same number of women and men, is free of discrimination and offers equal opportunity to everyone.
