Arbetsbeskrivning
The School of Science and Technology at Örebro University is seeking one postdoctoral researcher in Computer Science for a fixed-term 2-year appointment.
The researcher is to be based at Örebro University's Center for Applied Autonomous Sensor Systems (AASS, http://www.oru.se/aass), which carries out multi-disciplinary research at the intersection of robotics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, computer vision, computer science, and measurement technology. Our research in general is carried out in close partnership with world-leading corporations such as Volvo, Epiroc, Scania, Husqvarna, LKAB and Bosch, as well as with the public sector; our research on perception, planning and coordination systems for mobile robots is recognized world-wide.
The position is associated with industry-funded research projects on developing novel solutions for safe and efficient mixed traffic in industrial settings, including mines, construction sites, public transport and factories. “Mixed” means creating a tight cooperation between automated vehicles and humans. The specific ambition is to create safe and efficient traffic management and fleet control systems without requiring the separation of human-driven and autonomous systems, enabling truly collaborative transportation. The aim is to explore algorithms, protocols, norms and control strategies that enable safe, live and efficient traffic flow in shared environments. The position provides the opportunity to work on an exciting and practically relevant problem in close cooperation with leading industrial stakeholders, including Epiroc, LKAB, Scania, and Volvo. The developed approaches will be relevant in several application domains with an initial focus on underground mining.
Duties and responsibilities
Solid theoretical background in one or more of the following topics is required: multi-agent systems, multi-robot systems, automated planning and scheduling, robot motion planning, robot control, multi-agent path finding, formal properties of multi-agent/robot coordination methods (including safety and liveness), agent-based simulation, intelligent traffic management. The successful candidate shall be engaged in both research and integration work and is expected to produce both scientific publications and project demonstrators. We therefore seek candidates with:
• significant track record in one or more of the fields above
• proven ability to combine theoretical investigation and practical work with real applications
• strong expertise in system development, programming and use of current frameworks for robots, multi-robot systems and/or agent-based simulation.
• experience in the use of AI methods with real Robot systems or in agent-based coordination frameworks is a plus
The successful candidate will be required to work closely with our industrial partners, engaging in problem elicitation and demonstration activities, and testing, where appropriate and possible, in real production settings.
It is not necessary to be familiar with the Swedish language, but proficiency in written/spoken English is mandatory.
Eligibility
Eligible for the appointment as postdoctoral researcher are applicants holding a doctoral degree in Computer Science or in related subject areas. The doctoral degree should have been awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline. Candidates who have obtained their doctoral degree prior to that may however also be considered if special grounds exist (leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, clinical duties, an elected position in a trade union, or other similar circumstances).
Assessment criteria
The assessment of the candidates is based on previous research and publication records and the suitability to the topics outlined above, as well as demonstrated programming and deployment skills.
Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken, is a requirement.
Equality
Our ambition is to create a place of work that is characterized by gender equality and diversity. All genders are most welcome to apply.
