Postdoctoral researcher in Computer Science

Postdoctoral researcher in Computer Science

Arbetsbeskrivning

Örebro University and the School of Science and Technology are looking for a postdoctoral researcher with background in computer science, mobile robot olfaction and AI in mathematics education research for a fixed-term position of two years.

Subject area
The subject area for this position is: Computer Science.

Background
This postdoc position is connected to the Centre of Applied Autonomous Sensor Systems (AASS), which carries out multi-disciplinary research at the intersection of computer science, robotics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and computer vision. AASS is one of Sweden’s largest research environments in robotics and AI and was established in 1998. Our research is often done in close partnership with world-leading corporations as well as the public sector, and our research contributions are recognised worldwide. Nationally, the research in AI and robotics at Örebro is leading, and this is evidenced by the University’s involvement in a number of high-profile initiatives related to AI (see oru.se/ai). Örebro University is a modern, broad-based, and growing university, and artificial intelligence is a strong priority here. We endeavour to be an attractive place of work where members of staff feel a sense of pride and satisfaction. Duties and responsibilities
The appointment as a postdoctoral researcher is intended to enable persons who have recently been awarded their doctoral degree to consolidate and develop primarily their research skills.

This position is aligned with contemporary research topics in Mobile Robot Olfaction (research direction 1, approx. 50%) and mathematics education research (research direction 2, approx. 50%).

Mobile Robot Olfaction combines the science of gas sensing with artificial sensor systems (artificial olfaction) and mobile robotics. The objective of this research direction in SUM.MORMOR, to which this position will contribute, is monitoring of airflow and airborne particles with the aim to provide early warning of irrespirable atmospherics conditions. Specifically, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to research work on probabilistic and data-driven approaches to reliable gas inspection (despite the presence of interferents), gas discrimination (especially using unsupervised learning techniques to deal with situations in which not all analytes are known a priori), local airflow modelling, multi-compound gas distribution mapping, gas source localisation, as well as modelling of sensors and gas dispersal. Research direction 1 will be carried out in close interaction Mälardalen Högskola, Epiroc and LKAB.

Mathematics education systematically studies the teaching and learning of mathematics. The projects DIDUNAS and MADITA investigate to which degree Eye Tracking support to identify mathematical difficulties can be replaced with digital app-based measures and how support, tailored to the specific needs of children, can be automatically generated from the identified individual set of developed and underdeveloped skills.

The researcher will work together with Professor Achim J. Lilienthal.
