Duties:
How can we determine the resilience of food and farming systems in an uncertain future?
This position involves working in interdisciplinary projects nationally and at the EU level aimed at developing knowledge and strategies for more sustainable food systems. The focus for this postdoc will be on quantitative resilience assessments of food and farming systems, especially livestock systems.
The task includes development of methods and data for the assessment of how different farms and production systems can handle different types of chocks, e.g. weather related events, changes in input and market prices, crisis such as war etc. Some conceptual work will also be included, i.e. defining and operationalizing resilience at the farm level, but this postdoc will work in close collaboration with another postdoc working more at the conceptual level and with stakeholder perceptions of resilience and preparedness.
The postdoc will work in a team of experienced researchers at the department, in close collaboration with other departments at the university and be part of the interdisciplinary research environments provided by participation in the EU project, Re-livestock, that involve a large number of partners across the EU.
Qualifications:
We are looking for a motivated person who enjoys working in interdisciplinary environments.
Requirements:
• A PhD in a subject relevant to the research, for example environmental and sustainability assessment, agricultural science, engineering, or similar.
• Advanced analytic capabilities in relevant fields.
• Excellent English skills in writing and speaking is required.
Advantages:
• Experience of quantitative modelling and working with different types of data analysis.
• Knowledge of sustainability assessment and European food systems, agriculture (especially livestock systems) and ecology/biology.
• A clearly expressed and genuine interest in sustainable development and how to accomplish a sustainable food system in general.
• Experience of interdisciplinary research.
• Knowledge of Swedish, Danish and/or Norwegian.
Great emphasis is placed on personal qualities, such as the ability to work independently, flexibility, the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, curiosity and willingness to learn, as well as a good analytical and problem-solving ability.
The position is intended for a junior researcher and we are primarily looking for people who has completed their doctorate no more than three years ago.
