Postdoctoral researcher in Software Engineering for Cyber-Physical Systems

Postdoctoral researcher in Software Engineering for Cyber-Physical Systems

Arbetsbeskrivning

This position is a fulltime position for two years as a postdoctoral researcher in the Division of Interaction Design and Software Engineering at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. The position requires the conduction of high-quality research, with publishing at relevant peer-reviewed venues. The postdoc is expected to develop their own scientific concepts as part of an industrial/academic research project within the automotive area and communicate the results of their research verbally and in writing.

Information about the divisions
With over 20 faculty members, the Division of Interaction Design and Software Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden is arguably one of the largest software-engineering institutes world-wide, conducting research at the highest international level in topics such as model-driven engineering, testing, software product lines, empirical software engineering, requirements engineering, autonomic computing, and cloud computing. The division has hosted past international conferences such as EASE 2022, ICSE 2018, SPLC 2018, ICSA 2017, and REFSQ 2015. For industrial research, the division hosts the Software Center, an associated institute with a network of five universities and ten global companies including Siemens, Axis, and Jeppesen.

The postdoc will conduct research with Professor Christian Berger and work in tight collaboration with world-class researchers in the Software Engineering Division at Chalmers and University of Gothenburg. In particular, the division has a strong interesting in AI for Software Engineering, Cyber-Physical Systems, and Autonomous Driving, with several faculty members, Postdocs and PhD students working in this area.

Major responsibilities
Your major responsibility as a postdoc is to pursue your research related to the project goals. The postdoc will investigate challenges and opportunities and develop solutions related to field monitoring and cloud-enabled data analytics for software-enabled vehicle functions. The successful candidate will participate in project meetings and coordination duties and will prepare and submit scientific publications. The proposed work requires presence at the premises of the collaborating companies, and therefore the candidate must have good social skills and collegial qualities.

The postdoc will also conduct teaching duties up to 20% as needed, including giving lectures, grading assignments, and exams.

Qualifications
To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must hold a doctoral degree awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers). The doctoral thesis shall be in a relevant area according to the specific position stated in the advertisement, for example Automotive Software Engineering, Software Architectures, Software Systems for Autonomous Driving, and/or Cloud Systems for Automotive Systems.

Since a position as postdoctoral aims to give new holders of the doctorate the opportunity mainly to strengthen and develop their scholarly proficiency, we aim for applicants who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years counting from last date of application.

You have experience with software systems enabling cyber-physical systems, automotive software engineering, cloud systems for automotive software, and AI/ML, ideally shown through publications in international conferences and journals on relevant topics.

Documented practical working experience from working with several of the following topic areas is meritorious: cloud environments, embedded systems, distributed systems, or AI/ML. Furthermore, documented practical experience with Linux, containerization-technology, or system programming languages like C/C++ is considered meritorious as well.

We are looking for a postdoc that is highly motivated, self-propelled, energetic, independent and with a well-developed analytical problem-solving ability. As a person, you are empathetic, loyal and have high ethical standards.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement.
