Post-doctoral position in Digital micro-disposal of functionalities on textile for workwear and sportswear
DigiFun is funded by the research program CrossTexNet, which is a collaboration between 17 European regions. The goal of the program is to coordinate research programs on technical textiles and fiber-based materials, thus making available more efficiently and smarter funding of research projects for industry. The aim is to increase the competitiveness of the textile industry by using innovation and market potential of international cooperation and to reduce fragmentation and overlap of the European textile research.
The overall project objective is to develop a generic digital technology for micro-disposal of functional fluids on textile substrates intended for protective and sport clothing. The main focus of the project is on the development of new waterborne superhydrophobic and antistatic inks.
On the one hand the inkjet inks will be designed and engineered to be jettable using high-speed piëzo-print heads and on the other hand to meet the desired functional requirements during the long life cycle of the end-products. The new inks will enable high-speed functionalization, continuous processing and customized production. Digital micro-disposal will have the ability of full coverage or exact localization and patterning of functionalities.
Maximum 20% lecturing, within related research area, may be included in this position. The University's Working hours agreement for teaching staff applies to this position.
To be considered for appointment, the applicant is required to hold a PhD in textile engineering, materials engineering, chemistry, or physical chemistry with a focus on functional or smart textiles, which may not have completed more than three years prior to the end of the application period. There may, however, be special circumstances which may allow an applicant to be appointed for the position although he/she completed his/her PhD at an earlier date.
Thorough knowledge of the special characteristics of textiles, textile processing and textile treatments are required. Knowledge of minimal application technologies and development of inkjet inks for textile applications is a plus. The candidate should also have documented experience regarding textile materials. The candidate should be able to demonstrate very good communication skills in English, both orally and in writing and should have documented good collaborative and communicative skills.
Since much work is done in a multi-disciplinary environment, experience of joint project work is also a qualifying merit. Knowledge of minimal application technologies and development of inkjet inks, coatings or electroactive textiles is a plus. Experience as supervisor of PhD students is also a merit.
